Didn't mean to be so onery about the 3coms ;)   

I do realize a LOT of people use them and have no problems with them.  It
just seems that I spend more time swearing at them, and have done so
enough times that I've decided that it is definately not worth the extra
money for them.

I generally use a "generic" $10-15 nic when it isn't mission critical and
(as I think a LOT of FreeBSD'ers out there will agree with me on) the
Intel Pro/100B's when it is.   I can't honestly say that the Intel is any
better than the cheapies (I haven't had any problems to speak of with
either one) but the Intel just "feels" a little better.

The only caution on the cheapies is that certain iterations of the Realtec
chipsets are known to have issues.
