No, you'd run screen first, then login from a screen session.  

If you want to improve syscons, the source is available...

The Mac version works OK, as does the Windows terminals CRT and WinQVT.
The TNVT220 emulator that comes with Novell Lan WorkPlace is pretty nice
too.
