After poking in the custom driver it appears that the message is actually related to the fdc driver. Setting bootverbose gives the following dmesg snippet: === fdc0 failed to probe at port 0x3f0-0x3f5,0x3f7 irq 6 drq 2 on isa0 fdc: fdc-1 already exists; skipping it driver bug: Unable to set devclass (name: fdc, devname: (null)) === After booting, the floppy device does not work (no /dev/fd0). The "driver bug" issue is still present when using an unpatched GENERIC kernel without anything custom loaded, and seems related to the probe failure.
