Which X, XFree86 or Accelerated X? Which version? Which earlier
version of the X server works?

Would you describe the motherboard, keyboard and PS/2 mouse (if any)
of the systems?

When you switch from X to a virtual console, is the screen properly
restored?

After keyboard locks up, pressing locking keys (num-lock, caps-lock,
scroll-lock) changes LED state?
