Yes, as far as I know, telnetd(8) doesn't use the 'if' name.

Feel free to patch telnetd.c to do so. I believe the code for the
banner is at about line 1131 of src/crypto/telnet/telnetd/telnetd.c.

Others on this list might have workarounds for you.
