Why are you concerned about 4.3 or 4.4? The most recent release in the 4.xxx track is 4.9. Download it and install (buy the CD set). The most recent release in the 5.xxx track for the more adventurous is 5.2.1 and 5.3 is coming "soon". Unless you have some really odd application that can't be updated to run on a more recent version, don't even consider anything older than 4.9 or 5.2.1 (those are effectively different tracks - 4.xxx is the stable track right now and 5.xxx is the development [read experimental] track right now.
