Have you read the handbook? It is at www.freebsd.org, under documents. What version of FreeBSD are you running? How did you download the files from ftp.cdrom.com? What files are in the /usr/ports/net/samba directory? Did you do this as root? I just did a make for samba-1.9.18p8 and it worked. I did not want to install samba, but, since the make worked, the install should too. As root, try 'make' in /usr/ports/net/samba. What happens?
