Frankly I find this PNG/GIF fight a little stupid as from what I've read the patent is set to expire later this year. Rather than drop gifs, what I've done is to write them in gif 87 format (which blocks busybodies from finding out what software was used to create the image) and the ones that have to be in 89a format I write out with what I want then use a Windows program Graphic Workshop, which I purchased BEFORE Unisys started enforcing their patent (and thus while GW started paying Unisys royalty payments later on, none of _my_ money ever went to Unisys via GW) to brand the 89a's so that the Unisys busybodies think I'm helping them when in fact I'm screwing them. The way that Unisys has handled it, why should the entire Internet community screw itself and give up our gifs when ways exist to stymie Unisys from their immoral and unethical money grab. This is something that demands an "In your face Unisys" response and what better way than to have the gif standard spread around like leaves on the trees on the Internet so that when the patent expires, Unisys can have it rubbed in their faces wherever they look. Why give them the satisfaction of knowing that their immoral money grab actually affected the Internet?
