If your are searching a BSD like solution, you have pfsense: 
http://www.pfsense.org/
But what I use  IPCOP: http://www.ipcop.org/
With some addons like *BlockOutTraffic (BOT)*,  SQUIDGUARD,  and others 
you can  have contents filtering  and proxing.
