Would you please try to see if it is enabled > and consider reverting the configuration? Embarrassingly, that was the problem. I didn't even think to check updating before upgrading ldap. Actually I don't even remember it having a config make option. So I simply ran the make config and then a simple portupgrade -f and all is well.
