Doesn't this whole "argument" provide enough proof that this should be a priority? As time goes on, there are going to be more and more instances where there are multiple choices as to what software can be installed to do the same thing. Adding each "alternative" to contrib isn't a solution, so a solution should be built, with the whole sendmail vs postfix (vs smail vs exim vs ??) being the basis of it... I would much rather see *all* MTA's removed with a cleaner mechanism to install the one I want, vs replacing that which I do want with an unknown... Marc G.
