I'm not quite sure what your question is, but if I'm right the answer is
that HotSpot compilation probably works on 5.x.  I haven't tried it
personally, so I can't say for sure.  As per my original message, the
port doesn't enable HotSpot compilation by default, but I'm looking into
the patches available to do so.
