New installation of 4.8-RELEASE on a new system.

Installed XFree86 from packages:
     XFree86-4.3.0,1 X11/XFree86 core distribution (complete, using
mini/m eta-po

Running "XFree86 -configure" fails, locking the keyboard (but not the
system) and making the system squeal like a pig.

The last few lines of the XFree86.0.log
    (II) Module int10: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
            compiled for 4.3.0, module version = 1.0.0
            ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.6
    (II) NV(0): initializing int10
    (==) NV(0): Write-combining range (0xa0000,0x20000) was already clear
    (==) NV(0): Write-combining range (0xc0000,0x40000)
    (WW) NV(0): Bad V_BIOS checksum
    (II) NV(0): Primary V_BIOS segment is: 0xc000
    (==) NV(0): Write-combining range (0x0,0x1000) was already clear

pciconf reports the following:
    none2@pci1:0:0: class=0x030000 card=0x040910b0 chip=0x018110de
rev=0xa2 hdr=0x00
        vendor   = 'NVIDIA Corporation'
        device   = 'GeForce4 MX 440SE with AGP 8X [NV18]'
        class    = display
        subclass = VGA

No XFree86Config.new is written out.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
