freebsd-commit was THE commit list until the release of 2.0
at that point we started using cvs, and the freebsd-commit list
went quiet. some people kept subscribing to freebsd-commit believing
that it was teh commit list (resonable i guess given the name).
freebsd-commit info was changed to indicate that the list died with
1.1.5.1 (but not buried). still people kept subscribing excepting commit
mail.

finally, just last week, freebsd-commit was subscribed to
cvs-all. this sent commit message to everyone on freebsd-commit.
