You wouldnt' have been wrong 10 years ago when the acronym
"eight megabytes and constantly swapping" or EMACS still was funny.
Since then programs have become so big that little ol' emacs simply doesn't
count as big any more:

$ top

[...]

  PID USERNAME PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME WCPU CPU COMMAND
21890 me        18   0 31352K 14520K opause   0:56  4.74%  4.74% jre_X

20491 me         2   0 29672K 22624K select   2:11  0.00%  0.00% communicator-4
20492 me         2   0 16440K  8884K select   0:00  0.00%  0.00% communicator-4
17798 me         2   0 11476K  6896K RUN     11:24  0.00%  0.00% xmms
  322 mysql      2   0 11308K  1324K poll     0:01  0.00%  0.00% mysqld
21861 me         2   0 10620K  8844K select   0:06  0.00%  0.00% xemacs-21.1.7
17796 me        10   0  7184K  6728K wait     0:02  0.00%  0.00% nn

And everybody who has problems (like me) to get used to the editing
paradigma and preferes it the vi style should try out viper, 'nuff said.
