The brother website refers to a "Generic CUPSwrapper printer driver"
as the one for the HL-2270DW, which is the same as the one for the
HL-2250DN, so there's a good possibility the supplied ppd
   stp-brother-hl-2250dn.5.3.ppd.gz
might work.
