What you shouldn't do is allow root to run gui programs by default. Looking at the xcdroast port it looks like it can only be run as root, which is bad, or setuid, which is worse. The K3B port has a set of instruction for making it work as an ordinary user (make showinfo), perhaps it would work with xcdroast.
