In rc.conf (/etc or /etc/default depending on which one has the ifconfig_ed0
line) add mtu 1450 to the ed0 ifconfig line. ie:

ifconfig_ed0="inet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx mtu 1450"
