Well, the SVGAlib version just won't work :(
Try the X11 version, which runs fine under FreeBSD..
(You might also want to edit your /etc/XF86Config file so you have a low 
resolution mode which you change to when you play Quake)

Or you can get a 3dfx card, which works and looks much nicer =)
