My machine reboots when i attempt several kermit / ppp connections.

I use the following script (borrowed from FAQS);

	#!/bin/sh
	ps ax |grep pppd |grep -v grep
	pid=`ps ax |grep pppd |grep -v grep|awk '{print $1;}'`
	if [ "X${pid}" != "X" ] ; then
        	echo 'killing pppd, PID=' ${pid}
        	kill ${pid}
	fi
	ps ax |grep kermit |grep -v grep
	pid=`ps ax |grep kermit |grep -v grep|awk '{print $1;}'`
	if [ "X${pid}" != "X" ] ; then
        	echo 'killing kermit, PID=' ${pid}
        	kill ${pid}
	fi

	ifconfig ppp0 down
	ifconfig ppp0 delete

	kermit -y /usr/home/bob/kermit.dial

If I use the above to connect more than once, My machine reboots
upon starting a new pppd. I suspect it may be kermit related in
that my system does not like the fact that I kill a suspended (z)
kermit process. Help?
