Ok.. d/l'd 2.2.6 made the boot floppy and started the machine to
do a floppy install, the system starts giving me the option to skip
kernal configuration | configure kernal | etc...

I have tried installs both skipping the kernal configuration and
going into the visual kernal configuration. The result is the same
as follows:
