Here is an idea, that might work.

I have a 45GB DTLA drive and used this Drive Fitness Test from IBM to
check the drive.  It takes a while, but it is pretty thorough.

These are the only non-supported drives, which doesn't apply to you
according to your message:

IBM Microdrives
Travelstar E drives
IBM drives built before November 1995

Also, (from the same IBM page) you might look at
