Such behaviour is also in breach of the Australian telecommunications guidelines. I believe that the maximum number of attempts by an automated dialler to the same number is restricted to 10 in any one HALF-HOUR. Telebit specifically implemented an "ERROR" return code in their Austel approved WorldBlazers if this limit was hit. It was intended to refuse to dial that same number for another half-hour but, in practice, it NEVER forgot the black-listed number and a modem power-down was required :-( michael
