I started playing around with the settings in the BIOS and finally got it working. There are 8 or so choices in my Thinkpad 240 bios, and one of them works, while others with the same irq do not. Here is my dmesg: sio0 at port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4 on isa0 sio0: type 16550A good luck . I found it was the same with the parallel port.
