I am usually running SETI (/usr/ports/astro/setiathome/ or http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/) which puts the CPU to do some heavy calculations in the background, this takes my load to 1.00 average (which is similar to Linux) and the overall responce speed of the system is OK. However, if I have SETI running in the background, video playback in MPlayer (/usr/ports/graphics/mplayer) becomes very choppy and playing ZSNES (/usr/ports/emulators/zsnes) is near-impossible due to the sound skipping a terrible lot. I used to do these same things in Linux under the same load on the same hardware without the audio/video playback issues. I was wondering whether the issue lies in FreeBSD itself or somewhere else.
