unfortunately, this isn't really any better, since in order to use
apache2 and subversion together (which is really the goal of this
entire exercise) they both have to be linked against the same version
of apr. thus, until apr releases a 1.0 release which both apache2 and
subversion can use, i'm content to stick with the way things are now.
the infrastructure for the apr port is in place, and we will use it
for both subversion and apache2 when we can, until then, i'll just use
it for subversion. if we happen to hit a point where release versions
of both apache2 and subversion can successfully use the same apr, i'll
submit patches to the apache2 port which makes that possible, and who
knows, it could happen soon if the next releases of both apache2 and
subversion coincide closely enough.

overall though, it's not really that important in the grand scheme of
things, since subversion is not at 1.0 yet anyway, so all you should
be doing with the port is downloading the current code from
http://svn.collab.net/ and helping us debug it ;-) i'm not about to
jump through hoops in order to get things playing nicely for a
software package that isn't even supposed to be in use for anything
more than a bootstrap mechanism.
