It is the same problem I have fixed in camcontrol. You can do the same 
with changing in scsi-bsd.c in cdrtools
#define>CAM_MAXDEVS	128
to
#define>CAM_MAXDEVS	50.
I hope it is temporal solution. I am thinking about to remove or at 
least rise that limitation.
