Howdy

a week or so ago I asked about problems with the resolution and color
depth of Netscape and the answer came back that these areas were
controlled by X. So I attempted to control X with startx and(all
suggested):

-bpp16
-bpp 16
16
--bpp16
-bpp32
--bpp32
32
-bpp 32

(yes XF86Config shows all three as possible depths with there respective
window sizes)

When I run 'xwininfo' the color depth is always 8 (no matter what window
I click on), the images are just as grainy and the colors start going
crazy very quickly (which would seem to me -a total X newbie - to
indicate low color depth ie. 8 ).

Can anyone give me a clear idea of what I need to do to increase the
color depth. I'm using a Cirrus 5434 video chip with 1 meg of ram.

Please no ' flib the dwerble with a pinny and then drib the wilden'
answers - I really don't have a clue on X.

Thanks in Advance
