American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), the leader in storage and computing innovations worldwide, today announced its StorTrends NAS software version 1.0 with NDMP support for backup is ready for integration into its StorTrends and ServTrends storage solutions.

This software is not sold separately.

The StorTrends 1108-P (1U, eight drive Ultra160 SCSI hot swap unit), StorTrends 1312-P (3U, 12 drive Ultra160 SCSI hot swap unit) and ServTrends 1100-P (multi-purpose server appliance) are equipped with the StorTrends NAS software, along with AMI's Indium embedded controller, providing the customer with a full storage solution.

``AMI continues to revolutionize the storage market as we incorporate both our hardware and software design expertise to develop a complete storage solution,'' said Michael Patellis, AMI national sales manager.

AMI's custom-designed FreeBSD NAS software offers NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) support for backup - the industry standard network based tape backup protocol. StorTrends NAS Software version 1.0 implements NDMP version 3.0. By supporting NDMP, StorTrends NAS Software enables the data to be backed up and restored using any NDMP compatible backup software.

Version 1.0 is enhanced by Network File Protocols CIFS (Common Internet File System), the file sharing protocol used in Windows-based networks, and NFS (Network File System), the most common file sharing protocol used in various UNIX operating systems. All AMI software resides on a network upgradable flash memory device, which leaves all hard drives 100 percent available for user data.

Other software features:

  • Hardware Health Monitoring - monitors hardware health in AMI SCSI backplanes, including drive status, ambient temperature, system voltages and fan speed and alerts the administrator of their status
  • Network Transport Protocols (TCP/IP)
  • User-based disk q= uota
  • Client support for SMB/CIFS for Microsoft, NFS for Unix and Linux
  • Complete configuration and management via web browser
  • RAID le= vel 0 (striping, for performance)
  • RAID level 1 (mirroring, for reliabi= lity)
  • RAID level 5 (parity, for performance and reliability)
  • NTP (N= etwork Time Protocol) to be used to synchronize the time of the NAS box automatically
  • Error logging and notification via email = or SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for support of enterprise management software solutions
  • SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol= ) support for configuration and trap notification
  • SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protoc= ol) for sending mail alerts
