Shoot.

Remove all partitions.
Use MS-DOS fdisk (or something else) to create your primary MS-DOS
partition (50MB), don't forget to set the drive as bootable.
Reboot (use a system disk), format your partition, install MS-DOS. 
Install FreeBSD, it can create it owns partition in the setup and
formats it etc.
Install bootmanager (option is available in the installation menu).

200 MB for FreeBSD can be enough, but it's small and needs
optimalization (I advise to buy an extra hdd, since this doesn't cost
jack ass today)

FreeBSD doesn't support drive letters, nor can it be called from MS-DOS,
FreeBSD on the other hand can mount the MS-DOS partition.

You don't need to do this when you use the instruction shown above.
