In my case IBM drives are spinning up on the adapter's initial probe. So they are already spinning by the time CAM sees them. Have spent much more time reading Seagate installation manuals than the IBM manuals, but I think both drives offer 3 different ways to handle power up. 1) spin on power up. 2) wait 10 seconds times your SCSI ID. Or 3) don't spin up until told to.
