If you installed FreeBSD, it should have asked to enter the root password
(so that you could log in as root later) and to add other user accounts. If
you've skipped a step, or maybe restarted the computer half way through the
installation - this would cause problems.

When the password prompt comes up ("Enter Password") everything you enter
will be hidden for security - this is normal and does not mean your keyboard
has stopped working.

May I suggest that you read the FreeBSD handbook, concentrating on the
installation procedure. It is explained there in good detail.

Also, try to get some basic background on UNIX and/or FreeBSD, it will help
in understanding the fundamentals.

Hope this helps,

Mike
