http://freshmeat.net/projects/smpeg-xmms/?highlight=smpeg-xmms XFree86 4.0.1 with Xv extension makes MPEG playing very nice. With the Dolby and SDDS trailers, many dropped frames at double-size with mtv. With smpeg using XFree86 4.0's Xv image extension, I get continuous video. Also, with mtv with double-size takes ~40% CPU and X server is basically saturated (sometimes it takes 3-5 seconds for it to respond to a button click while playing video). With smpeg double-size, CPU drops to 20-25%, and X server is completely responsive. Thanks to Chris Piazza for the port. My setup. XFree86 4.1.0, Matrox G200-SD (PCI), AMD K6-III 400. xmms-1.2.2, sdl-devel-1.1.4, and smpeg-0.4.0 from ports today. Note: had to add: CONFIGURE_ARGS+= --disable-pthread-sem to sdl's port Makefile to get it to build on 3.4-RELEASE. -- Randall Hopper aa8vb@nc.rr.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message
