The slices are referenced as /dev/wd0s1, /dev/wd0s2 etc. 2) I'm fighting my own *@&^#$@^#%@ battle with sound on FreeBSD. 3) You can use xdm to give you a graphic logon screen. If you're using KDE it has a manager called kdm. Edit the file /etc/ttys. Look under the heading "Virtual Terminals. ttyv8 should reference xdm. To activate, change the word "no" to "yes". Then reboot. man xdm to see what files have to be modified. When you're in X, if you want to get to a standard screen, use CTRL-ALT-F*, F* being F2 through F8 (F! was used to activate xdm).
