The general rationalisation of the FreeBSD kernel-mode driver API surface probably warrants updating this document: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/books/arch-handbook/ Describing the general case in terms of ISA device drivers is probably confusing these days, although it reflects how the code has evolved. cheers Bruce
