OK, so I've installed XFree86 4.0. I've got a Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 (S3 ViRGE), and no matter what screen resolution I try, I get severe screen corruption, even when returning to the text console. I have to shutdown blind and hit reset to fix it. I have no such problem with 3.3.6.
