Well, I install 2.2 systems using a CD and a sysinstall script on a floppy..
Sysinstall is fairly simple to automate. Its not really 'unattended' tho.
(You have to tell it to load the config file etc, and configure X by hand). 

It adds distributions and packages automatically though.
