During the installation you were also ask if you want to create new users, I assume you say no. thats no problem with the root account you can create new user. check this http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/users.html Be careful with your activity with root, because the superuser can do anything in the system. I suggest you create a user and work with it. if you want to do something that needs superuser permisions you can use the command su or install sudo.
