Yes, You can supply a hint to the kernel in the config to tell it how much memory you have installed if it can't detect it properly from the BIOS. Add this line to your kernel config, and re-compile the kernel: options MAXMEM="(1024*1024)" This should get the kernel to recognize the memory.
