length=20 was increased from 8 to 16 characters in FBSD 3.0  If it=20 is

A couple of questions please.
 
1.    I have an urgent need to have = username=20 greater than 8 characters. Any advice please. I am using FreeBSd = 2.2.6, but am=20 close to upgrading to 4.1.1 stable.
