FYI, the problem is still there on a freshly cvsupped RELENG_5 system:
FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE, sources cvsupped: Oct 19, 2004 17:27 UTC.

I sure hope it will get fixed before 5.3-RELEASE. It's really annoying
and a big regression from a desktop user's point of view.
