>Environment:
Cannot install FreeBSD due to the problem experienced.
>Description:
After loading FreeBSD's 7.0 i386 install CD and entering 'sysinstall', a Standard Install does not detect any hard disks. Both hard disks in my machine is SATA, and I believe the problem does not occur with PATA disks (even though I do not have one to test). The SATA hard drives run off a SiS 180/181 RAID Controller (even though they are not in RAID mode, and there is no ATA support in the BIOS) which is part of the Asus P4S-800D series. During boot time, I can see the device being loaded/probed.

A similar ticket has been opened in the past: kern/87585, however I was not around then to test it.
>How-To-Repeat:
Simply insert any 6.3 or 7.0 FreeBSD install disk into a machine with only SATA hard drives. Load into sysinstall and do a standard install.
>Fix:
There are a few references, one of them is a ticket opened in the past: kern/87585

A similar problem cropped into NetBSD, one (possible) solution was:
