2.2.8-RELEASE is a very good release. It is very very stable and will give
you access to many precompiled up-to-date software packages. If you don't
kneed the newest drivers only available in 3.x-RELEASE, it may be a good
choice. One small disadvantage is that the support for the a.out binary
format used before 3.x-RELEASE will decrease within the ports collection
(if you want to compile software from the ports collection by yourself in
the future).=20

3.0-RELEASE gives you access to some new drivers (e.g. Adaptec 7880 SCSI
on-board controller) and uses the ELF binary format. It is a more
experimental release; and not all the precompiled packages and ports of
2.2.8-R are available in 3.0-RELEASE.=20
