I'm trying to compile sendmail from scratch, with sasl support.

No matter what I do it won't find the sasl libs unless I place them in
/usr/lib. How do I make the system look elsewhere? I thought this was
what ldconfig was for, but the sasl docs mention something about using
libtool, which I can't even find a man page for.
