Well ... in my case, all my problems were cause by lack of
intelligence/care/whatever.


It turns out that I had an old supfile, and when I checked through it I
somehow missed the most obvious problem - that I was tagged for RELENG_3
instead of RELENG_4.

So, if anyone was mystified as to why I was having so much trouble, quit
wondering, it's my own stupidity.
