I finally got through to the mail archives and found the answer to my question: reboot. Thanks Nate. Now it's time to remove kaffe and the X11 stuff that comes with it... On a related subject: initially I had the same problem as others reported, the missing ld.so. Shouldn't the jdk-1.1.7 package have detected the dependency on ld.so in the first place?
