i recently struggled at home with a 15 GB HD and realized to late that
all is answered in the FAQ!!

file:/usr/share/doc/FAQ/FAQ39.html#39:

there is written:

... the simplest way around this is usually to create a small DOS
partition on the disk. The correct geometry should then be detected ....
