i've been using the ATA driver for a while now, but since my last word & kernel
i get "WARNING: / was not properly dismounted" at the end of the dmesg and i
have to fsck /.

dmesg output for that ATA driver :

ad1: 6149MB (12594960 sectors), 13328 cyls, 15 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S
ad1: piomode=4, dmamode=2, udmamode=2
