you nailed it, the driver I tried with was too old.  Now I have 
3.40.69.0, and it works (attaches and creates the interface, I have not 
tried to use it yet).  The only bummer was that the .inf file seems to 
be UTF-16, so I had to run iconv on it before ndiscvt would grok it.
