This is known problem and it fixed in CURRENT.
You need to apply this patch:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sbin/atacontrol/atacontrol.c.diff?r1=1.47;r2=1.48

I cc'ed person, who commited this fix.
